Mac Book is a reading app for OS X. It makes general-purpose computers less general, in order to make them better suited for reading. It acknowledges that computers give rise to a diffuse mode of attention, and that the scarcity of attention poses a threat to slow modes of information consumption.
In concrete terms, the app reduces the functionality of a computer to that of an e-reader. During a Mac Book session, which can last from 5 minutes to 8 hours, the user will only be able to turn pages in a chosen PDF file. When the session is complete, the app will return full control of the computer to the user.
